RAP- A genre of music spawned in the early 70's in various ghettos throughout the U.S. The name allegedly derived from people saying "That's a rap!" after performing with a DJ. A rap can usually consist of ryhmes and a beat, although sometimes done Often accused of being about nothing but sex and drugs (not dissimilar to metal), usually depicts daily life in the black ghettos or other assorted issues faced by the poorest of us.
RNB- Rhythm And Blues. A style of music denotable by its bluesy guitar sounds and deep vocalising, that dates back to about the 1930s. Nowadays the phrase Rnb has been coined by slow rap music, where the actual phrase rhythm and blues is no londer relevant. A general feeling that moaning about someones make believe situations counts as blues, whereas genuine rnb was started during the derpression in america, where the blues were a reflection of human uncertaintey and not the modern day idea of rnb (i.e. flashing money and cars and women and whining about girls)
HIP HOP- A name for the 4 elements of the late 70's New York City renaissance which includes break dancing, emceeing, (rapping) graffiti, and turntablism.
BLUES- In the earlist 20th century, this southern music borrowed harmonic and structural devices and vocal techniques form work songs and spirituals.
HOUSE- a variation of electronic music that uses a 4/4 beat. It was developed by dance club DJs in Chicago in the 1980s. Its name probably comes from the fact that it was mostly played at wearhouses.
House music contains many different influences and styles that range from electronic to disco. There is funky house (close to funk music), electro house (close to techno), disco house (close to disco 70s style), and groovy house (flowy and groovy). There is also progressive house and hard house plus many more depending on the djs style.
